Recovery
Points
Solid recovery points are an absolute
must as soon as you venture off-road. Even simple tracks can get
slippery enough that you may need a tow or snatch recovery at some
point. It's not a drama, and in fact is half the fun of a trip, but
you need to be properly prepared.
Most trip leaders will insist on
adequate recovery points on vehicles before they are allowed to join the
trip.
There are some serious forces at work
when your car is being recovered from a boghole or up a steep section of
track. These forces are easily enough to bend or break the tiedown
points found on most vehicles. If a point breaks during a recovery,
the result is nearly always damage to your vehicle, the vehicle assisting
you or bystanders.
The best solution is to install upgraded
recovery points. These will resist the huge forces involved and
allow you to recover your vehicle without the worry of them breaking.
